Slipcast ceramic bottle, punctured and unglazed. Fired to cone 05 at Berkley Potter's Studio.

6" tall

The Holes in Your Theory is a series of slip cast beer bottles. When the last drop is drunk and the labels and advertising of the adult beverage industry are stripped away, a clean and empty form is all that’s left. Once cast in clay, that shapely form is carefully perforated. The wet clay bottle will collapse and crack if too much is extracted, therefore what is removed and what remains creates tension throughout the form. After the piece is fired it is stronger than ever before. This transformation parallels the theme of consumption and borrows from the visual language of architecture. These elements combine to challenge what we expect from utilitarian structures, both within ourselves and in our world.
